Led by its founder and creative director, Sulayman “Saul” Faal, REALLY FROM AFRICA.™ remains guided by his vision and ethos.

Faal a first-generation Sene-Gambian American raised in Southern California. His upbringing was enriched by time spent in West Africa, New Orleans, and Washington, D.C., where he observed cultural parallels among these regions. This exposure to diverse yet interconnected Black cultures inspired the creation of REALLY FROM AFRICA™.

Faal pursued studies in political science and African studies at Dillard University and Howard University. This academic foundation deepened his understanding of power dynamics and African heritage, informing his commitment to cultural preservation through design.

In 2017, Faal transitioned from a focus on diplomacy to design, channeling his passion for storytelling and cultural preservation into creative ventures. Beyond REALLY FROM AFRICA™., he leads a Los Angeles-based art and design studio and a apparel brand, both emphasizing intentional design and storytelling. Faal currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
